Penns Valley to Welcome Our New School Police Officers

Penns Valley is proud to introduce our school police officers (SPOs): Supervisor Nicole Eckley, and
officers Kent Bernier, and Chuck Hockenberry.

The SPO Supervisor is Nicole Eckley. She most recently served as a juvenile detective with the State
College Police Department for almost ten years. She will be overseeing operations and supervising an
eventual staff of three other officers. A volunteer camp counselor and mother of two, she knows the
importance of keeping children safe. More importantly, keeping children safe has been her professional
life’s work.

Kent Bernier spent 26 years with the Pennsylvania State Police and most recently served as Moshannon
Valley’s first ever school police officer. The former Marine brings with him a wealth of supervision
experience and school police experience, as well.

Chuck Hockenberry also has served for over 25 years as a State Trooper, excelling in conflict
resolution and community service. In his role in recruitment services he has conducted recruitment events
for students from grade school through college.

All SPOs will begin work on April 10 at the District. Please make them feel welcome in their new home. You can greet them in-person on April 10 from 5-7 PM in the new gym lobby at the high school.
